Deborah McKelvey

From playing dress ups in the backyard to imaginary worlds for the many characters she created for herself, Deborah has always had a great imagination and from a very early age, chose to channel that into acting. It’s all that she has ever wanted to do.

What Deborah loves most about this art is that she gets to be and do whatever she wants without consequences. It’s total freedom which she finds exhilarating for herself, being a naturally shy person.

It took a while for Deborah to pluck up the courage to audition for her first play, however she now knows it was the best thing she could have done. Deborah has received nominations and awards for her work on stage and names roles such as Maggie the Cat in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, Catherine in “Proof” and Anna in “Closer” amongst her favourites. She has also enjoyed learning numerous acting techniques and studied singing lessons for a short time.

Deborah is equally comfortable in front of the camera as well as on stage and has found it very interesting learning the diversity in techniques required to master each acting type. Deborah has also done some voiceover work for documentaries and short films

But there is another subject of hers that she is equally passionate about. That’s her crusade to end the exploitation and suffering of animals all over the world. Animal rights is something she feels very strongly about and has always believed that humans could learn a lot from animals if they just listened and observed. Deborah has never felt more comfortable and at home than when she is amongst the animals and donates her time and money where possible to animal causes such as WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals).

In addition to her acting career, Deborah works in the retail industry as a merchandiser which has allowed her to express her creativity in a different way, and although it’s not a job she jumps out of bed in the morning to go to, at least for now, it pays the bills!
