Janet Provan

Janet has been involved in musical performance for most of her life.  Starting as a violinist and playing for youth orchestras, she soon discovered that singing was her forte and developed a passion for performing in, and later, directing, musical theatre.  A degree in music education gave her the means to pass on to her students her love of performing and she now produces both primary and secondary school productions every year – including writing both the script and score on several occasions.

Favourite musical roles include Celeste 1/Elaine in Cloc’s Australian Premier of “Sunday in the Park With George”, Hodel in “Fiddler on the Roof”, Yum Yum in “The Mikado” and Inez in “The Baker’s Wife”. The last few years have seen her shift to performance in “straight” theatre, finding a far richer crop of roles for a woman who has moved passed the ingénue stage!

This move has led her to find a home at Williamstown Little Theatre, where in a relatively short time she has managed to play everything from a 15 year old school girl (Daisy, in “Daisy Pulls it Off”) to a fading musical theatre star (Natasha in “Rough Crossing”) to a cat, a moorhen and several other eccentric animal types in “Honk!”

A mother of two, Janet met her husband, Justin while doing a production of “Fiddler on the Roof” and they have now produced two children who are equally enamoured with music and performing, having played lead roles in their primary school productions.
